I decided to call my blog The Bluebonnet Blog because that seemed so fitting for someone in Texas, someone who is a plant obsessed gardener....I'm calling this entry "The Beginning" because this is the first time I've written a blog.
I've been writing since high school when I took a journalism class and began to write for the school newspaper. After that, I guess I was hooked. Then I had numerous opportunities to write when I was in college, including writing in contests that won me scholarships to pay my tuition. Later, I wrote even more as a graduate student, so although I may lack experience as a blogger, I am not lacking in experience as a writer.
My grandmother helped a friend of hers author several books. Her friend was a journalist who had regularly written for Life magazine and who had also written things for the Smithsonian Institution. Perhaps exposure to this rubbed off on me more than I realized at the time.
At any rate, I love to write and am willing to write about just about anything. I'll never turn down an opportunity to write about plants or gardening or hummingbirds or many other things. It just never occurred to me that I could profit from my own writing. I guess I'm about to embark on a new journey and I'll see what happens.
